Dorothy Ray is a native of Arizona whose work accents landscapes and people in various localities.
Interest in art was evident in the late fifties when formal classes were pursued while attending Phoenix College. However, in the sixties family matters such as raising and caring for the children put art endeavor on temporary hold. In the seventies, art effort again surged to the forefront. Art education was enhanced through continuing education classes at Glendale Community College. Positive results were verified by first place awards in juried student art exhibitions.
In the eighties, personal development continued primarily through practical application, workshops, communication media and self-study. In the nineties, art education programs in both France and Italy provided a more diverse influence thereafter. Especially, in portraying people and places in everyday life. Most recently, a tour of Victoria, British Columbia provided the opportunity for onsite painting as well as collection of photographic reference material.
On a separate note and aside from personal development, the artist has engaged in presenting classes in both oil and watercolor for several years.
Previously, artwork has been displayed in galleries in Scottsdale and Sedona. Currently, and for the past four years, works of the artist have been presented at the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona. There is an extensive list of awards available upon request.
The artist is a member of the Arizona Artist Guild and the Arizona Watercolor Association.
